Janel Griffith's Winestock rocks as a Signature Chesapeake Wine Trail Event

Combine the flower children of Woodstock plus flowing wine and a dose of nouveau goth and you have a really cool wine festival called "Winestock". This signature event, now in its second year, pulled in record crowds this past Saturday October 4th; close to 1000 festival lovers hung out to enjoy music, wine, and a cool time warp to the Woodstock era despite colder weather and grey skies.

The brainchild behind this event is Janel Griffiths of Dove Valley Vineyard and Winery. Janel is a graphics artist among other things and she loves the idea of breaking rules. Color, warmth and a little of bit of chaos go into the imagery she creates for Dove Valley. Obviously her style is paying off as the Winestock festival has cultivated an avid following. Buses come in from Dover, Baltimore and the lower Eastern Shore of Maryland. Festival fans are dressed in full Woodstock mode but the drug of choice is wine. Janel works her festival with several other wineries including Woodhall Wine Cellars, Far Eastern Shore Winery and Cassinelli Vineyards and Winery. The ambiance is furthered with an open field of artisans and their wares. Music from 8 different bands plays non stop from noon to 7 pm.

What is popular at this event? "People love to buy the tie dye shirts I make." say Janel"....they are mood lifting." Continues Janel "I was in awe and definitely surprised by the reaction to the festival....people said they enjoyed the wine, the continuous music and the Woodstock camaraderie. Many new friends were made that day. That counts for a lot!"
